Decorative Wall Applications

What is EIFS?

EIFS is the acronym for External Insulation and Finishing Systems. It is a complete system that comprises several layers from the sheathing and the exposed finish. EIFS assemblies typically consist of six (6) components – A liquid-applied water resistive barrier (LA-WRB) over moisture sensitive substrates; Thermal insulation boards, secured to a structural substrate; Adhesive and/or mechanical fasteners, for attachment of the thermal insulation boards to the substrate; A water-resistant synthetic base coat applied to the top of the insulation to provide weather resistance and fire protection; Glass fibre reinforcing mesh embedded in the base coat for impact resistance; and, A decorative and protective finish coat to provide the colour and texture; the finish coat has the colour right in the mix.

Benefits of Stucco on the Exterior

Stucco is a versatile choice for exterior wall cladding as it is an option that provides design and aesthetic flexibility – with components like texture, mouldings, colour, you can virtually achieve any architectural style you desire. Even more important a correctly installed, EIFS stucco system promotes energy efficiency by reducing air infiltration by as much as 55% compared to standard brick or wood construction and also provides moisture control, thereby saving in utility costs. In order to realize and appreciate these benefits, EIFS stucco applications must be properly installed by experienced and certified contractors.

Parging

Parging is the coating applied to the visible (above-grade) portion of your home’s foundation walls. It is applied to both poured-concrete and concrete-block foundations to hide surface imperfections, marks from formwork and the like, so its role is essentially decorative. Weather-resistive Barrier

A weather-resistant barrier (WRB) is an important part of today’s energy-efficient and healthy homes and commercial buildings. A modern WRB design shields the walls of a structure from water and air infiltration, along with moisture accumulation within the wall systems. Modern, high-quality weather-resistant barriers are both air- and moisture-resistant and permeable to vapor, which ensures a home or commercial building is energy-efficient, healthy and comfortable.
